In another twist to the drama surrounding the fielding of the candidate by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Tobe North senatorial district, Bashir Sheriff Machina has been officially recognized as the party's senatorial candidate by the Damaturu Division of the Federal High Court on Wednesday.

The judge also ruled that Mr. Machina had been legitimately chosen as the APC's senatorial candidate, upholding the party's May 28 primary election, which was also recognized by INEC.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, undermined Bashir Machina's authority by attempting to invalidate a primary election that had already been approved by using his connections to the party officials.

Lawan had contested for the presidency within the party but lost out to Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
