A governor from Edo State, the Midwest region of Nigeria has announced his resignation from the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress.

Governor Godwin Obaseki became a governor in 2016 through the support of his former ally, the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole.

The duo fell out of friendship after the party Chairman accused Obaseki of neglecting his friends and unfinished projects.

Last Friday, a committee set up by the National Working Committee of the party to screen aspirants for primary disqualified Obaseki from partaking in the primary.

Announcing his next move on Tuesday, Obaseki who had gone to consult with the country President, Muhammadu Buhari told journalists that he was resigning from the party.

He also said he would be announcing his next line of action, that is, the platform he intends to fly his candidacy.

He said “In my last TweeT, I said I will make a decision after my disqualification was announced by APC. I said I’ll make a decision after I have consulted the President.

“I am just here to inform you that I have decided, formerly, to resign my membership from the All progressives Congress.

“Haven’t done that, I would now announce in the next few days my specific line of action, and what platform I would be contesting the gubernatorial election on.

“I am sure the whole country knows and is aware of what has gone wrong between me and the party Chairman which commuted my disqualification as a gubernatorial aspirant.

“Upon that unfortunate decision by the Chairman of the All progressives Congress, I have decided to go and seek my gubernatorial aspiration on another platform.”

It had been rumoured in the last few days that Obaseki was negotiating his way into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was seen with the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike and his River State Counterpart.

An elder statesman, Elder Edwin Clark had bamboozled Adams Oshommhole for the role he played in Obaseki’s disqualification and advised him (the governor) to join the PDP to contest the election.
