The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and a former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, for anti-party activities.
Also expelled were the National Secretary of the PDP, Samuel Anyanwu, and others.
The decision was taken on Friday, 14 November 2025, during the party’s National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The PDP unanimously resolved to expel Wike and others for fostering disunity through a series of litigations and anti-party activities.
The convention, held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan, had delegates from all 36 states and the FCT.
Chief Bode George moved the motion for the expulsion of 11 key members, citing activities inconsistent with the party’s collective interest. The motion was immediately seconded by the Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi State.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, called for a voice vote to adopt and ratify the expulsion of those involved, and it was unanimously accepted.
Also present at the convention were Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Governor Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Governor Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Governor Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), and the acting PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum.
Others in attendance included Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro; former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola; former Gombe State Governor Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo; Board of Trustees Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara; and other chieftains of the party.
Understanding the Impact of Wike’s Actions on the PDP
The recent actions taken by the PDP against Wike have sparked widespread discussions among party members and political analysts.
Members had long called for sanctions against Wike and others who worked against the party in the 2023 general election.
Wike has never denied working against the PDP in 2023. He publicly stated that he had no regrets about his actions, while insisting he was not involved in anti-party activities.
“For the presidential election, I said I was going to support equity, fairness, and justice. In the other elections, I supported my party, and that is why we won the governorship and National Assembly elections.
“For the presidential election, I have no apologies because I don’t believe in injustice. Today, people say ‘discipline Wike, he did anti-party.’ I did not do anti-party,” Wike said on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
After the election, President Bola Tinubu, who won on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), appointed Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Wike had accused some PDP leaders of violating the party’s constitution, insisting that “anti-party begets anti-party.”
In January 2023, while speaking at a PDP campaign rally in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, the then Rivers State Governor said he would “hit back” at the national leadership of the party over what he described as anti-party activities.
“Those of them in Abuja talking about anti-party activities, we have caught them now. They are the ones doing anti-party [activities]. I have caught them now, and I told them anti-party begets anti-party,” he said.
