Nigerians have been verbally abusing themselves since it was disclosed that one of the All Progressives Congress leaders, a former Nigeria dictator and a present aspirant of the APC could not submit his academic qualifications to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Peoples Democratic Party supporters had taken to the social media to lambast the sincerity behind his excuse, adding that he was only a dictator who does not have an academic qualitifcations.
Meanwhile, an INEC official who was asked in Abuja concerning the issue said it was not the duty of the commission to reject candidates based on their inability to submit credentials but that of their parties.
According to INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, ” When parties file their nominees, the law requires that INEC should display those nominees for claims and objections. If objections are made to those claims, the commissions reverts back to the political parties because the statutory mandate is on the parties to nominate their candidates and not to allow INEC to choose their candidates for them.
INEC would have to revert to the political parties to say “there is a challenge to the credentials that you have filed to the criteria that you have cited for any particular nominee, so do the needful by addressing it, either by verifying it and see whether it is true or not by showing that it is not true and sort it out.” It is their job, they sort it out before they bring their nominee to the commission. So, the commission has no role in disqualifying candidates.”
The General also cleared the air on the issue saying his credentials were verifiable inspite of the fact that he does not have them at hands.
This was disclosed by Buhari in Abuja through Dr. chidia Maduekwe, his Director of Publicity.
According to the statement“The online controversy is uncalled for because General Buhari is a man whose antecedents are well known. His integrity is not in doubt, he is known for transparency and due process. We are in the age of search engines any effort to goggle General Buhari’s credentials will yield the required results.
“He attended Katsina Provincial School where he was a school prefect and Head Boy before proceeding to the Nigerian Military Training Collage which was later renamed Nigeria Defence Academy, the records are there.
“There is no how he would have proceeded to the academy if he did not have the requisite qualifications from the provincial school. Having attended defence school, he attended several military institutions at home and abroad including Anderlecht in the United Kingdom, other military institutions in the USA and India. These records are there. I want to disabuse the minds of Nigerians that those peddling campaign questioning his qualifications are engaging in an enterprise in futility because it is a non -issue”
A website, rankers.com published Buhari as the sixth famous US Army War College Alumni. On the list, Buhari came after James Peake, an American soldier and a physician.
