President Muhammadu Buhari has given his approval for the immediate suspension of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Adamawa State, Mr Hudu Yunusa-Ari.
This decision has been made pending the completion of investigations by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, into the conduct and actions of the REC during the recently-concluded controversial supplementary election in Adamawa State.

The President has also given a directive for Yunusa-Ari to be investigated and prosecuted if found liable, by the Inspector-General of Police (IG).
Willie Bassey, the Director of Information at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has confirmed this development in a statement obtained by our correspondent on Thursday night.
In his statement, Bassey revealed that the President has also instructed the IGP, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, and the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to conduct an investigation into the role of their officers in aiding and abetting the conduct and actions of Yunusa-Ari. The appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against them if found guilty.
In his statement, Bassey said, “Also, the President has directed investigation by the IGP, Director-General of the Department of State Services, and the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, of the role of their officers in aiding and abetting the conduct/actions of Yunusa-Ari, and if found culpable, appropriate disciplinary actions, should be meted out to them.”
It remains to be seen what the outcome of the investigations will be, and what further actions will be taken by the government.
