The highly anticipated by-election in Edo State took place on Saturday across seven local government areas.
In several polling units and wards within the Ovia South West local government area, particularly in Iguobazuwa and Udo, the voting process for the House of Representatives proceeded smoothly, with no major disruptions.
At Iguobazuwa Primary School, voters began identifying their names and casting ballots as early as 8:49 AM, although the turnout was relatively low.
The atmosphere at Iguobazuwa West ward was different, as some units saw a significant turnout, and the voting process continued without interruption.
Conversely, the PDP candidate Reverend Akpitanyi reported disturbances during voting in his polling unit and nearby locations.
While other areas observed had a tranquil environment, they also experienced low voter turnout.
The BVAS Machines functioned well overall, with only minor issues that were resolved within a couple of attempts.
Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa characterized the election as peaceful, stating, “You can see the people are happy, as they have turned out to exercise their franchise. There was no violence whatsoever, indicating that the people understand their rights. I cannot speak for other areas, but the information I have suggests it has been peaceful.”
In contrast, a PDP agent, Destiny Ebabulele, claimed he was assaulted by APC thugs, allegedly instigated by an APC chieftain, a charge the APC denied.
Meanwhile, in the Senatorial District contest at Uromi, there were mixed reports, with the PDP, APC, and ADC accusing one another of engaging in vote-buying practices.sort an indication that the people know their right I don’t know what could be happening in other areas but information at my disposal says it is peaceful”
However, a PDP agent, Destiny Ebabulele, alleges that he was manhandled by APC thugs led by a chieftain of the APC, an allegation that was denied by the APC.
However, in the Senatorial District contest at Uromi, it was mixed feelings as both the PDP, APC, and the ADC accused each other of vote buying.
