The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, UCLES now Cambridge Assessment has given details concerning the result of the Presidential candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC), Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

In a post on its official website, the university confirmed subjects and grades as it were offered in 1961, adding grades were issued in numbers, not letters contrary to the believe that the result earlier released by the General may have been fabricated.
“Examination results were classed in grades by 1 to 9. 1,2,3,4,5 & 6 indicate a Pass with Credit; 7 & 8 indicate a Pass; 9 indicates a Failure” the school disclosed.
Buhari had released a result which shows that he had Credit in Geography, Health Science, English, Hausa Language; failed in Mathematics and Woodwork, and had a pass in Literature in English.
The school said in 1961, candidates needed to pass English and not Mathematics to qualify for its certificate
“To pass the School Certificate, candidates had to pass examinations in a variety of groups. It was compulsory to pass English Language, but not Maths, in order to gain the Certificate.” the school revealed.
The school also said that the number of candidates who sat for Hausa in 1961 was 152 contrary to the believe that Hausa was not part of the subjects in 1961.
The analysis as misconstrued by many Pro-Buhari has not shown that Buhari finished his education or has a certificate to his name.
Contrary to PremiumTimes report that the military said it had Buhari’s result, Nigeria military explained that according to a form possibly filled by Buhari, it showed that he had the results.
The military said ” Buhari applied to join the military as a Form Six student of the Provincial Secondary School, Katsina on 18 October 1961. His application was duly endorsed by the Principal of the School, who also wrote a report on him and recommended him suitably for military commission. It is a practice in the Nigerian Army that before candidates are shortlisted for commissioning into the officer cadre of the Service, the selection board verifies the original copies of their credentials. However, this Department is not privy to what obtained in the 1960s. Records available in the Nigerian Army, based on the entry made in Nigerian Army Form 199A at the point of documentation after commission, indicated that the former Head of State obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1961 and had credits in relevant subjects; English Language, Geography, History, Health Science and Hausa with a pass in English Literature. Major General Muhammadu Buhari’s WASC is however not in his personal file as it was not the practice of this Department to keep such document at that time. The practice of maintaining photocopies of academic credentials of officers in their personal files commenced in 1980s.
NAIJA CENTR NEWS could recall that Buhari’s result was published by Premiumtimes which led to more criticism as many Nigerians including the PDP claimed the result was not authentic.
The name printed on the result released by Buhari showed Mohamed instead of Muhammadu which led to the believe that the result was not authentic.
Some Nigerian lawyers, including Barr. Ojealaro Friday had sued the General to release his result or pull out from the race.
Similar to Military stand, asking Buhari to apply for his credentials since he said it was with the military board, Cambridge University equally took the stand saying only Buhari can request for the photocopies of his qualifications.
“We can only confirm or verify results at the direct request of or with the permission of a candidate.”
“This is in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 and section 40 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.”

Despite the green light from the statement above by Cambridge, Buhari had called for press conference accusing PDP of blowing the certificate issue out of proportion, yet refused to apply directly to the school to confirm his claim.
