The President has directed the suspension of the Chairman of Presidential panel on recovery of public assets, Okoi Obono-Obla.
Obono-Obla’s suspension was contained in a statement suspension letter the presidency served on Wednesday.
The Presidential aide’s suspension may not be unconnected to a series of allegations, including falsification of WAEC result and corruption.

The embattled Obono-Obla had dismissed earlier report of his suspension as unfounded, sponsored by powerful elements who were jealous of his stance against corruption.
ICPC had submitted a report to the President confirming that Obono-Obla falsified his WAEC result to enrol at the University of Jos where he studied law in the 1980s.
In December 2018, the House of Representative asked the President to sack the aide citing corruption and falsification of the result, an allegation he brushed off.

Another allegation that landed the aide in trouble is that ICPC report accused him of using his office to enrich himself, a conclusion the house also reached last year.
Obono-Obla in midst of the allegations has maintained that he was being crucified over his tough position on corruption, and bragged that he had recovered billions in cash and assets.
His office had clashed with top administration officials like Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.
According to post on President Muhammadu Buhari’s official Facebook and collaborated on his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday, the Presidency says it has directed the immediate suspension of Obono-Obla pending ICPC investigation.
“President Buhari has directed the suspension from office, with immediate effect, of the Chairman of the Special Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property, Mr Okoi Obono-Obla. The suspension shall be in effect until the conclusion of ongoing ICPC investigations into a number of cases relating to Mr. Obono-Obla.”
