Controversy seems to be brewing in APC Edo State ahead of the 2024 governorship election as Senator Monday Okpebholo declared its flagbearer a few hours after Dennis Idahosa was declared.
The state returning Officer for the primary, Dr.
Ugbaja Uzoamaka, said Senator Monday Okpebholo scored 12,145 votes to defeat others after clearing 29 881 delegates to participate in the exercise.
However, the parallel announcement has set the stage for a controversial flagbearer as it stands now that Governor Hope Uzodinma announced Dennis Idahosa, A.K.A Denco, as the winner with over 40thousand votes. At the same time, the returning Officer declared Senator Monday Okpebholo the winner with over 12thousand votes.
The process had earlier gone smoothly in the 192 wards as some members of the APC Applauded the process.
The situation changed at the collation Centre when some heavily armed thugs invaded the place, beating every available person perceived to be against one of the candidates, with some journalists at the receiving end.
Speaking on the alleged rumbles in the party, a former minority whip, House of Representatives, Samson Osagie, described the primaries in his ward as “credible.”
He told The Standard Gazette, “In my ward, there was no rancour. It was orderly and by the rule. The aspirants were called upon, their agents stood up, and people queued behind the candidate they wanted to vote for. Dennis Idahosa won overwhemely.
I cannot speak for other places in the space. If it is what I predicted is anything to go by, it was credible. Whoever emerges as the winner is the candidate I am supporting.
