Edo State House of Assembly passed a resolution Tuesday directing the Chief Judge to set up a seven-man committee to investigate the allegations of gross misconduct levelled against the state’s deputy governor, Philip Shaibu.
This went into effect after nineteen members voted in support of the directive.
The speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, on the resumption of the day’s plenary, announced to the House that the seven days given to the deputy governor Phillip Shaibu to respond to his notice of impeachment have elapsed.
Subsequently, the majority leader, Charity Aiguobarueghian, then moved that the house mandate the chief judge of Edo state to set up a seven-man committee to investigate the allegations against the deputy governor.
A vote supported the move by raising hands, which the clerk conducted, and nineteen out of twenty-four lawmakers were in support.
With the backing of over two-thirds of the House, the speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, then announced that the resolution of the House should be communicated to the chief judge of Edo state for it to be acted upon.
The House recently commenced the Impeachment of Deputy Speaker Phillip Shaibu on two allegations: perjury and revealing government secrets to the public.
