Justice Inyang Ekwo ruled that the amount of 393,042 votes Umahi received in the Ebonyi State governorship election on March 9, 2019 belonged to the PDP and so could not be legitimately transferred to the APC.

The court noted that Umahi's and his Igwe's defection to the APC threw out not only the PDP, but also the votes it had received.
