The new speaker, Honorable Kabiru Ajoto was sworn in immediately after the impeachment of the former.

According to information, the former Speaker was alleged to run the house like his private property, including allowing his wife to use his official car and having influence in what transpire in the house.

Honorable Okonoboh was impeached on Monday by other lawmakers in Assembly complex in Benin City after they had met separately to plan the impeachment.

The new speaker said that 16 lawmakers had recently met and the decision to impeach Honorable Okonoboh was hatched, and later another 3 lawmakers joined which increased the number to 19.

Okonoboh is accused of shutting down the house to attend his son’s wedding in the United State and he had been postponing sittings.

He was also accused of awarding contracts without due process. This accusation is similar to the deputy speaker of the house, who was also a former speaker, Honorable Edoror.

The New speaker was one of the lawmakers who impeached Speaker Edobor on the ground that he was corrupt and awarded contracts without due process.

Meanwhile, the impeached speaker had claimed that his impeachment is illegal.

Honorable Okonoboh has not answered his calls nor has he returned text message sent by NAIJA CENTER NEWS correspondent.
