Edo State House of Assembly has Suspended the chairman and vice chairmen of all eighteen local government chairmen in Edo state.
The alleged suspension is alleged to be insubordination of the local government chairmen.
At the resumption of Tuesday’s plenary, lawmakers were greeted with a petition from Governor Monday Okpebholo on insubordination and gross misconduct by the leadership of the eighteen local government councils over their refusal to submit financial records to the state government.
Debate soon opened on the issue as some lawmakers pushed for the suspension of the council chairmen, In a rowdy session others argued against the move.
After a head count, fourteen lawmakers voted in support of the suspension, six against the motion, and three were undecided.
The house then resolved that the leaders of the legislative arm take over the leadership of the respective councils.
