The Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Onuoha, has expressed concern over the collection of over one thousand six hundred and seventeen voter cards across the seven local government areas, where the bye-election is to be held.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner dropped the hint while briefing journalists on their preparedness for the by-election.
The REC said out of a total of 719,504 registered voters.
However, on August 16, 2025, residents of Ovia Federal Constituency and Edo Central Senatorial Districts will head to the polls for the bye-election to fill the vacant seats previously occupied by Governor Monday Okpebholo and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa.
Professor Anugbum Onuoha revealed that eight political parties, AA, ADP, APP, APC, ADC, APM, PDP, and ZLP, will participate in the contest across seven local government areas, with two in Edo South and five in Edo Central.
He said, having monitored their primaries successfully, INEC has confirmed the emergence of candidates for each of the aforementioned parties.
“According to INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Bivas have been configured and charged, ad hoc staff and electoral presiding officers have been trained, critical stakeholders consulted and the distribution of non-sensitive materials to units and wards in the local government areas concluded “
He further informed the media that online voter registration will commence on August 18, 2025, followed by in-person voter registration starting on August 25, 2025.
The by-election for Ovia Federal Constituency and Edo Central Senatorial District is scheduled to be held on August 16, 2025.
