A legit and Foremost Pro-All Progressive Congress Group, Change Advocates of Nigeria, CAN, says It has withdrawn support and endorsement earlier given to Governor Godwin Obaseki's Reelection bid ahead of the state Gubernatorial election in September.
The group also unanimously endorsed a consensus Candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who had secured a thumb-up of other aspirants who earlier withdrew from the race after a perceived agreement reached among themselves ahead of the party's Primary Election.
The group explained that given the recent developments where the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki resigned his Membership with the ruling Party, informed its decisions to backtrack from the governor and relatively throw it support for Pastor Ize-Iyamu, who is the front runner of the APC, Edo State Chapter.
Governor Obaseki on Friday, June 19, 2020, officially joined the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to pursue his reelection ambition having been disqualified by the Screening Committee of his former party, the All Progressive Congress, APC, citing discrepancies in some of the certificates submitted by the governor as their reasons.
However, A statement released and made available to The London Post yesterday in Abuja by it National Coordinator, Comrade Osareniye Ikponmwonba, disclosed that after it National Executive emergency meeting, an Accord was reached by the Group to withdraw its affiliations with Obaseki/Shaibu Movement (OSM).
The statement reads in part: "The National Executive of Our Group after an emergency meeting in Abuja, hereby withdraw it earlier support and endorsement for Governor Godwin Obaseki as well as pull out affiliate supports to Obaseki/Shaibu Movement (OSM)".
"We will now throw our support and endorse Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the APC candidature for Edo State Governorship Election 2020.
"By this, the Edo State Chapter of our Group have been directed to remain steadfast to the APC, and mobilize all our members across the 192 wards in the state to campaign and deliver for the party".
The group, however, declared its loyalty for the Party, while pledging to work assiduously with the Governorship Candidate presented by the party ahead of the September 19, 2020, Gubernatorial Election.
