Governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir El Rufai has expressed shock over the disappointing showing of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the just concluded gubernatorial election in Edo State.
Mallam El-Rufai said the APC was coasting home to victory barely weeks ago, but wonder why it’s candidate lost to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The APC and its governorship candidate Osagie Ize-Iyamu lost to the PDP and Governor Godwin Obaseki, who even defeated Ize-Iyamu in his local government of Orhionmwon amidst his poor performance in other areas of the state.
But Governor El-Rufai while speaking after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC announced the results, bemoaned the lacklustre performance of the APC in the Edo Poll.
“We would have loved to win,” El-Rufai said, during an interview on Sunrise Daily. “Quite frankly I was optimistic. Up to three weeks ago, the polls indicated that we were going to win. I don’t know what happened in the last two, three weeks of the campaign.
“As you know, a large number of voters make up their minds in the last two weeks of election. Many voters decide, no matter what happens, this is how I am voting. But most people want to wait and watch and make up their minds in the last two weeks.
“Three weeks ago, the polls clearly showed that APC was going to win, but the results came out differently from what we expected.”
