The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the first year of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration as a lost year marked by drift, decline, and deceit, accusing the government of wasting opportunities and reversing the state’s progress.
The state party chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, PDP, remarked during a press conference in Benin.
On the 12th of November 2025, the current administration of Governor Monday okpekholo celebrated his first year in office, backing it up with a long list of achievements.
However, the state PDP, the major opposition party, says the last 12 months have been defined by policy paralysis, economic stagnation, and the collapse of institutional order.
According to the PDP state chairman, Dr Tony Aziegbemi, “Edo has suffered wasted opportunities under accidental leadership, where governance has been reduced to emotion and propaganda rather than policy and vision. There has been a breakdown of due process in the state.
Contracts are now awarded in secrecy, tenders boards have been sidelined, and merit has been thrown overboard, and the administration is destroying Obaseki’s legacy like Edogis, Edo hub, and many others.”
Commenting on the ongoing controversy surrounding the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA), the PDP said the dispute was needless and politically motivated.
However, the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Fred Itua, and a Chieftain of the APC, Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu, in their separate statements, have described the allegations as baseless, stressing that Edo Shining Agenda of governor Okpekholo is working for the benefit of the people.
They said the PDP is suffering from opposition syndrome as they no longer have any government pulse to look, hence the cry and blindness to the good work of the Governor.
According to the CPS, ” I read the statement of the factional chairman of PDP, it was obvious that the opposition syndrome has actually affected him as no more free money as the governor now channel Edo money to Edo infrastructure.”
