The committee members identities are concealed for strategic reasons, the state publicity secretary, Mr Chris Nehikhare tells NAIJA CENTER NEWS on Saturday.

The committee primary objective is to investigate the debt incurred by the state government from the Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion’s administration (1999) to the current government (2018),

Included in the objectives of the panel is the reasons behind the loans and if the monies were spent on its primary purposes.

Last week, a report which emerged claiming the governor, Godwin Obaseki complained how the debt by the previous government was hindering his administration, was denied by the governor through his Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy Crusoe Osagie.

In reaction, the PDP said “We have set up an investigative committee to ascertain the debt profile of Edo State.

“We have mandated the committee to ascertain all the debt incurred by Edo State government from June 1999 to July 2018. The committee is to ascertain the reasons why each and all the loans were sought.

“The committee is to ascertain if the loans were used for the purpose for which there were taken, and if the money borrowed have been repaid and therefore determine the balance.”

The PDP added “As we represent an alternative government and are responsible for challenging the policies of the government and producing different policies where appropriate, Edo State PDP demands answers as it decries the state of infrastructural decay especially in Education, Health, Security, and Flood Control.

“The issue of youth unemployment and engagements as well as skill acquisition and training are glaring policy deficits of this government which we intend to tackle as soon as the debt profile and financial reengineering of Edo state financial architecture is revamped and repositioned.”
