The lawmakers have removed Gboyega Aribisogan from his position as speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly and suspended him indefinitely.
Olubunmi Adelugba was chosen as the new speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly by 17 of the state's 25 legislators.

Since the passing of previous speaker Funminiyi Afuye on October 19 at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital following a heart arrest, the Assembly's leadership has been in disarray.
Members of the Ekiti State Assembly had split into competing groups over who should be the speaker, hence the building had been locked.
A month after Afuye's passing, Aribisogan, a two-term politician representing Ikole 1 Constituency in the Assembly, was elected Speaker.
