Though the leader of the party, President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a congratulatory message to the winner of Edo State governorship election, the campaign council has announced its rejection.
The Edo State APC accused the Peoples Democratic Party (APC) of manipulating the Saturday governorship election between Godwin Obaseki (PDP) and Osagie Ize-Iyamu (APC).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Obaseki the winner after the governor pulled 307,995 against his opponent who scored 223,619 votes.
The Chairperson of the APC Media Campaign Council, John Mayaki said in a statement on Sunday evening that the party rejects the result, citing “strong-arm tactics”.
The statement, however, called on APC members to remain calm to allow party leaders to study the result and decide the next action.
“Our people were arbitrarily arrested, many of the figures were fabricated,” Mr Mayaki said in a statement.
“Areas where we won, they cancelled them. They decreased the votes in areas we had an advantage,” the party said. “They rejected our results and jerked up theirs.”
The APC also said there was the arbitrary arrest of its members who could have resisted the alleged rigging and that Mr Obaseki raised a false alarm.
