A group of civil society organisations in Bauchi state under the name of the Citizens United to Save Humanity (CUSH) has condemned the unwarranted and unprovoked attack on the convoy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member representing Ningi/Warji federal constituency of Bauchi state, Hon Hashimu Adamu Ranga.

The federal lawmaker was attacked by some youth allegedly sponsored by the opposition when he paid condolence to the palace over the passing away of the late Emir of Ningi, Alhaji Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya.

The group, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Comrade Mustapha Junaidu and made available to journalists in Abuja, said the irate youth attacked the lawmaker’s convoy with stones and pebbles, singing abusive songs.

The group alleged that the thugs were sponsored by the opposition party, which was envious of the rising political profile and the giant stride he had made to the people of his constituency.

The statement, which read in part stated that: “The federal Lawmaker who was assaulted appeared the following day and walked on foot up to 7km from the Emir’s Palace unescorted by any security personnel daring the opposition elements to show their unsightly faces but the unruly cowards were nowhere to be found.”

The CUSH wholly condemns the illegal, ill-advised and ill-motivated antics of the misguided youths and their criminal sponsors who must be unmasked, brought and brought to book and duly sanctioned by the law to serve as a lesson to similarly minded miscreants in the future.

The statement further stated that the federal lawmaker has been doing well since he was elected by his constituency. This frustrated the opposition, who thought he would fail in his new assignment and, therefore, decided to sponsor the stone attack on him.

“We, therefore, called on the people both market leaders, students, artisans, transporters and professional associations to rally around Hon Adamu Hashimu Ranga and declare their unflinching support for  him to continue with the good work he is doing at the National Assembly,” the statement reads.
