An Osun State based Civil Society Organization (CSO), the Civil Societies Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State (CSCEOS) has warned the State governor, Mr.

Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola against using the meager resources of the State to fund the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Edo and Ondo States, noting that it has been the habitual character of Aregbesola to illegally spend the state resources on frivolous elections of his party in other States of the federation since he came into power in November 2010 after the ruling of Justice Clara Ogunbiyi led Appeal court in Ibadan.

The group recalled that billions of naira of the State Public funds had been spent to sponsor elections in Ondo, Kogi, Anambra and other States vis a vis the 2015 Presidential election of President Muhammadu Buhari, single out the October 20th, 2012 Ondo State Governorship election where billions of naira were spent on fruitless political
journey on the side of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria(ACN) candidate, Barrister Rotimi Akeredolu(SAN).

It further disclosed that the 2012 Ondo Guber election project committee was led by Aregbesola’s former Commissioner for Special Duties and Regional Integration, Mr. Surajudeen Ajibola Bashiru Adebayo and the major part of the billion of naira set aside for the unprofitable project were siphoned by Ajibola Bashiru and his
co-travelers, calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) to beam search light on the State government as regard the forthcoming elections in those States .

It would be recalled that the nation’s electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently fixed September 10th and November 26, 2016 for the conduct of governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States respectively.

Reacting to the recent meeting of Mr. Rauf Aregbesola with Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomole on the forthcoming governorship election in Edo and Ondo States, through a statement issued and signed by the
CSCEOS’s Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman which was made available to newsmen on Monday, he alleged that certain billions of naira out of Local Government funds diverted by the State government has been set aside to sponsor the governorship elections in the two States to support the candidates of the ruling All Progressives
Congress(APC).

The rights activist stated that information at the group disposal has revealed that Mr. Aregbesola had concluded arrangement as he used to do, to commit billions of naira on the forthcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States in favour of APC candidates, noting that the reckless spending of the past by Mr.

Aregbesola caused over
long financial crisis that has been ravaging the State since 2014 which made the State to borrow money from River State government under Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and Adeleke’s family to pay workers salaries in 2014 .

The statement reads: “Our attention has been reliably drawn to the fact that Mr.

Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola is planning to spend certain amount of billions naira on the forthcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States out of meager resources of the State from Local Government funds. We want anti-graft agencies of the Federal Government
to be monitoring the activities of the State government and its officials before, during and after the conduct of the 2016 governorship elections because of the Osun peoples’ past experience in order to save the State meager resources from flow to the two States on fruitless effort and mission.

“Our investigations reveal that the recent meeting led by Mr. Aregbesola with Edo State Governor on the forthcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States, is part of the strategy to be used to ensure that the new account be created for the pool of the funds that will be used for the said elections and the account will be man
by Aregbesola which it will be categorized as money being raised for the guber elections and Osun Local government funds will be easily diverted to this account so as to outsmart the anti-graft agencies.

Sulaiman who faulted the Aregbesola’s plan to commit State Local Government funds on election of other States, described the Governor’s action as anti-masses, illegal, unconstitutional and crime against humanity, noting that it was a surprise that a state under Aregbesola which could not constitute the State Executive Council(SEC) and
conduct Local government election for almost six and two years respectively and still owing workers and retirees alike backlogs of five(5) to six(6) months salaries and pension due under the guise financial crunch , could now want to set aside the funds for sponsoring of governorship elections of other States of the Federation at this material time.
