The Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Anselm Ojezua has expressed sadness that Obaseki didn’t ‘secure this victory’ on the platform of the APC.
Ojezua told journalists after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the final result which showed Obaseki secured a second term.
The APC Chairman said he has mixed feelings that the governor didn’t secure the victory on the APC because an axed National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, pushed him out.
According to him, APC had already decided to support Obaseki as a candidate but Oshiomhole pushed him out with unwholesome disqualification which led to Obaseki, seeking his ticket on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“As at the time I did make a statement that our most treasured asset is the governor. That statement has been vindicated by the victory the governor has secured.”
He added, “I am the state chairman of APC even though the party was said to have contested this election, you will notice that they conducted their campaigns without the party,”.
“They treated the party with contempt and unfortunately the national organ of the party cooperated with them in this negligence believing that they could secure victory without the platform. So, we were just there looking at them. I think we are all wiser now,” he said.
