The Executive Governor of Edo State Godwin Obaseki debunked the idea that he is afraid of his arched-rival, one of the governorship aspirants, Mr Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Obaseki who appeared on Channels TV Politics today programme on Sunday said he had beaten Ize-Iyamu when he had no track record in 2016 adding that he was not afraid of him now that he has a record as a governor.

“Why should I be afraid of Ize-Iyamu? We contested before. The last time I contested, he was my opponent. The votes are there, I beat him. That was when I had no track record as a governor but now with a track record as the governor, I have no fear,” Obaseki said.

The governor also said he would support whoever emerged the party flag bearer only if the process is free and fair. “If the process is free, transparent and credible, why not? If not, why should I?”

Certificate Forgery.

Obaseki said University of Ibadan is a premier University in Nigeria and whoever doubted his certificate can inquiry directly from the University.

He opined that those accusing him of forgery probably didn’t go to school and may have gotten away with forgery.

He said “It is so absurd to talk about forgery of a certificate from a premier university in this country. the university of Ibadan is about a 100km from Lagos. If you see there is an issue, why not call the University.

“It is nonsense but it is not surprising because the people who are making such an allegations think that it is so easy, maybe because they have not gone to a proper school, that it is easy to forge high-quality university and get away with it.”

Edo primary is scheduled to hold on June 22 and the state and National party are at loggerhead over the method of the primary.

Obaseki is concerned about the safety of the people as he said direct primary will jeopardize the effort of the government to control the spread of the COVID-19, while the National party led by Adams Oshiomhole insists that it has the authority to adopt any method seemed fit.
