A State Residential Electoral Commission (REC) member was arrested for supposedly declaring the incorrect winner in the recent supplementary election held in Adamawa State.
Hudu Yanusa-Ari was taken into custody for declaring the candidate from the All Progressives Congress as the victor of the supplementary gubernatorial elections.
Following allegations of impropriety, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) requested an investigation which led to his arrest, The Standard Gazette gathered.
On Tuesday, May 2nd, 2023, Ari, who is thought to be a Barrister, was apprehended by the Police Election Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Team in Abuja.
Ari is currently being held by the police and questioned to determine the reasons behind their alleged inappropriate behaviour.
According to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the team is currently questioning other officials and individuals involved in the situation.
The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has promised to investigate and apprehend anyone involved in the matter, and they will be prosecuted according to the law if found guilty.
The Inspector-General of Police has assured of the commitment of the Force to ensuring that justice is served in this case and that all guilty parties are brought to justice.
