Senator Dino Melayde, a former Nigerian senator, who represented Kogi West Senatorial district, says it's not time for Peter Obi to rule Nigeria.

According to a video the senator posted on his Instagram, Melaye acknowledged that the Labour Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, "is one of the finest Nigerians who is intellectually mobile and academically sagacious."

"He is a great Nigerian, and by the grace of God, he has the potential to be a great President in the nearest future."

However, Mr Melaye's message changed when he gave Obi a piece of advice, saying his "time is not now because you will have to wait for your time."

He also claimed that Mr Obi's bulk of the campaign focuses on "reducing the cost of governance" while claiming the country's major problem is a lack of unity.

He said, "I want to advise that your time is not now because you will have to wait for your time. I have listened to your postulations, argument, deliveries and campaigns, and I can see that 90% of your campaigns dwell on reducing governance costs.

"I want to tell you that the problem of this country is beyond just cutting the cost of governance. I am not saying that it is deceptive or pretentious, but it is less than 1% of our national problem."

"What we need today in Nigeria is to unify this country. Nigeria has never been this divided in our national history, not even during the civil war. We need one character who has the capacity and capability to unite us together as a nation first. We need to believe in unity first because without peace, there is no development."

Senator Dino Melaye added, "Can Peter Obi be trusted by a typical Katsina man or somebody from the Northern part of the country, by middle belters and core northerners?"

Melaye, 48, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and an ardent supporter of the party flagbearer, rain praises on his party candidate Atiku Abubakar.

"The answer is no," Mr Melaye said, "We need one Nigerian who is going to be trusted by every part of this country, and that person is Atiku Abubakar, who when it was dangerous for any Northerner to talk about the issue of devolution of powers and restructuring, Atiku did.

"Today, Atiku Abubakar married a Yoruba woman with Yoruba women Igbo woman with Igbo children, married a Hausa woman with Hausa children and a Fulani wife with Fulani children. Only Atiku can bring us together as a nation."

The former lawmaker's final advice to Obi was for him to "forget the social media drama and diaspora euphoria" and campaign for Atiku.
