The people of Kogi Central Senatorial District have officially initiated a recall process against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing a loss of confidence in her representation.
The move was set in motion in the Okehi Local Government Area on Wednesday, with a significant turnout of constituents, who queued up to support the recall effort.
Among the voters were, Nura Ibrahim, Adagiri Musa, and Tijani Usman, who emphasized that the initiative transcends party affiliations.
They expressed growing dissatisfaction with Akpoti-Uduaghan’s performance, particularly her failure to address critical issues such as poverty alleviation, infrastructure development, and improvements in the education sector.
“The decision to initiate the recall was not made hastily,” said one of the electorate. “We have made numerous attempts to engage Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, but our efforts were met with indifference and a dismissive attitude.”
The recall process will span two days, during which all polling units across the five local government areas of Kogi Central will be open for constituents to sign a petition calling for the senator’s removal from office. The success of the recall effort will depend on a sufficient number of signatures, which will be tallied to determine the next steps in the process.
With strong public support for the recall, it remains to be seen whether the senator will be able to address the concerns of her constituents and restore their faith in her leadership.
