The crisis engulfing the Peoples Democratic Party leadership in Dekina Local Government Chapter in Kogi state took a new turn yesterday as the party chairman Husseini Ejini, who is under fire for daring the stakeholders opposed to Senator Dino Melaye, moved to suspend key party figures, including former governor of the state, Capt. Idris Wada.
Others on the list are a Former commissioner, Mrs. Eke Iyaji, the pioneer chairman of the party in the state, Chief John Odawn, and the party’s chieftain, John Yakubu.
At the meeting with the factional state chairman, Hon. Tom Zekeri, it was disclosed that Capt. Wada didn’t support Senator Dino Melaye, the party’s former governorship candidate in the 2023 poll, and therefore cannot remove Ejini, who worked for the party.

Recall that supporters of Dino Melaye in the Dekina Local Government Chapter of the party have accused the former governor of being the brain behind the party’s crisis in the area.
They alleged that Wada was aggrieved for losing the primaries to Dino Melaye, thereby making him work against him in the general election in favour of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
“Despite the betrayal, APC failed woefully to the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the former governor’s polling unit and ward. It was too embarrassing how his excellency quickly lost relevance, “a source was quoted as saying.
Hon. Tom Zekeri further stated that he ensured that the suspension of the division chairman, Husseini Ejini, was overturned because Capt. Wada, who is behind the suspension, never supported Dino.
“Wada didn’t return home to campaign or seek support for our governorship candidate and there is no way we will fold our hands and allow that to happen”, Another source in the meeting quoted Tom Zekeri to have said so.
Hon. Tom Zekeri also urged the Ejini faction to visit Mrs Grace Atawodi, who relocated to Abuja over the crisis and put more pressure on her to ensure the distractors don’t have their way.
Tom, who came home for the burial of one of his relatives in Iyale, promised Ejini that his seat as chairman was secure. In return, Ejini confirmed Tom Zekeri as the new leader of PDP in Dekina, demanding that Tom drop his house key in Iyale for him.
All meetings held at Chief Odawn’s house in Egume will now be in Iyale, showing everyone that Tom is the new leader.
He(Tom) said, “The key is always with his brother who is at home.”
The faction also asked Tom Zekeri to nominate the person to fill the position of state PRO, which is already zoned to Dekina. Tom suggested Khalid Mohammed for the position for his alleged demonstration of loyalty to Tom Zakeri-led faction in the state.
