……….stop illegal deduction of workers’ half salaries
An Osun State based Civil Society Organization (CSO) under the auspices of Civil Societies Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State (CSCEOS) has urged President Muhamadu Buhari not to bailout Osun State governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola on the payment of backlogs of salaries, unless Mr. Aregbesola come clean on the judicious use of the
N35billion bailout funds earlier accrued to the State for the payment of backlogs of salaries and pension due to workers and retirees respectively, advising the Federal Government of Nigeria under the watch of President Buhari to stop worrying over the inability of
Aregbesola to pay the backlogs of salary and pension arrears in the State, insisting that Aregbesola diverted the large sum of bailout funds to his government abandoned roads project where he would collect kick-back from the contractors.

They however declared that the large sum of loans had already been collected on some of these projects which were yet to see the light of the day but now, turning the same projects to the conduit pipe where the meager resources of the State had been siphoned to the private pursue of Aregbesola, his son, Kabiru and their co-travelers, saying that with this development, Buhari would see that Mr. Aregbesola was not in the same page with the present Federal Governments’ change mantra.
It advised President Buhari to take over the payment of salaries and Pension due of workers and retirees alike in the State, alleging that if any fund release to Aregbesola for the payment of backlog of six(6) to seven (7) month salaries and pension due to workers and retirees in the State, Aregbesola would divert it like bailout funds earlier accrued to the State for the same purpose, demanding for the prosecution of Aregbesola for criminally diverted and scandalized the sum of over N16 billion out of N35billion bailout funds accrued to the State into the private purse, adding that the action show the
insensitivity of Aregbesola’s towards the workers welfare in the State.
.
The group also noted that releasing another funds for the payment of salaries and pension due to Aregbesola by the Federal government under the watch of President Buhari without asking on the how the earlier bailout funds were expended, would tantamount to the encouragement of corruption in the State, urging Mr. Aregbesola to stop all the illegal
deductions of the half salaries to workers in the State on the loan they had settled with their financial institutions.
Meanwhile, they strongly condemned the Jacobs Adekomi-led Osun State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for colliding with the Mr. Rauf Aregbesola to mortgage the workers’ welfare for personal and selfish aggrandizement, urged the workers in the State to use this period to request from Aregbesola on what happened to their salaries deductions to Pension Contributory Scheme, bank loans and Cooperative Societies, advising the foremost Labour Leader, Comrade Hassan Sunmonu
to resign voluntarily as Chairman from the stage managed Osun States’ Revenue Allocation Committee before Aregbesola dragged his hard earned name into the mud for selfish interest .
The CSO, in a May Day messages to Osun State workers, which was signed by its Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman and made available to newsmen on Saturday to commemorate this year 2016 May Day celebration, insisted that if N35billion bailout funds accrued to the State by the Federal Government through the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) could be judiciously used for the purpose it was released for, it could have
been pay the full salaries and pension due of the State workforce and retirees for the period of fifteen (15) months from January 2015 to March 2016, according to the outcome of the September 2015 State government Screening exercise which arrived at N2.32billon monthly for the payment of salaries and pension due.
According to Sulaiman, the sum of N2.32billion covers the salaries of State workforce including Local Government workers, teachers, lecturers, LAUTECHTH workers, Medical Doctors, civil servants, and retirees, challenging Aregbesola to come out with the true report of the 2015 screening exercise of the State workforce which was conducted
by his government before expended the bailout funds for the payment of salaries for just six months, with the total numbers of ghost workers discovered during the exercise and the name of those officials that responsible for the hanky-panky deal in the State Civil service.
He further stated that for the period of January 2015 till the material time, Aregbesola had an opportunity of playing around with the Local Government funds which was average of N2.1billion to N2.4billion on monthly basis including intervention funds with the State meager allocations which has been depleted to the 0.5 percent level, as a result of deduction of the repayment of over N500billion accrued to the State under Aregbesola’s government.
Sulaiman stressed that this year May Day celebration in Osun State did not worth celebration for the workers because some of them with their family member were living in agony as a result of Aregbesola’s anti workers posture, calling on the workers to use this period to pray fervently for the sudden end of the present tyrannical and Abacha government of Aregbesola and enthronement of Peoples including workers’ friendly government in the State.
He therefore advised the workers in Osun State to stay away from the State Government/Adekomi’s May Day celebration so as to show their grievances to all the anti-workers policies of Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola’s government which was absolutely contrary to the Labour Law, Labour and Allied Matter Act, workmen’s Compensation Act and Locus Classicus Labour Act, advising the members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliate in the State to remove Mr. Jacobs Adekomi and Bayo Adejumo as their Chairman NLC and Joint Negotiating Council(JNC) respectively in order for the workers in the State to breath the new lease of life.
Sulaiman reiterated that Adekomi and Adejumo with their co-travelers were using the current anti-workers posture of Aregbesola to get State government patronage which made them to be smiling to their various banks, maintaining that they should know that anything build on falsehood would collapse at the end of the day in line with natural
justice.
