Ahead of the Edo State governorship election to be held on the 21st of September, the APC held its Primary on Saturday to elect its flagbearer.
The Primary, which was in the direct election format, was held in the 192 wards across the state.
At about 9:30 am, APC members converged on some designated wards, waiting to cast their vote for their preferred aspirants.
In Oredo wards one and two, the exercise was peaceful as the voters were counted while in the queue.
The situation was the same at Ikpoba Okha Ward 6. The voters waited patiently in the queue to be counted.
Also, in Oredo ward 7, the APC turned up for the exercise; however, there was a flexing of muscles between the two major camps of Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who is currently backing the House of Representative member Dennis Idahosa, and the Ize Iyamu camp, who is presently supporting Senator Monday Okpebholo Akpakomiza over alleged manipulation of results.
Some voters, after being counted, expressed satisfaction with the exercise even though there have been pockets of claims from some wards.
“An APC member, Felix Ehigiegba, said for now the situation is calm in their wards, but they are yet to get situation reports in other wards across the state.”
Another member, Solomon Ehigiator, said though the exercise might be going smoothly, they see some manipulation from the process and hoped all anomalies could be corrected before the announcement of results.
However, as the collation of results was ongoing, journalists were maltreated and beaten mercilessly as they scampered for safety while some equipment was destroyed, which resulted in the collation of results being put on hold.
Imo State governor hopes Uzodinma is expected to officially announce the result after the total collation.
