The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP finally made a decision to support Senator Ali Ndume and Umar Bargo as its preferred candidate for the Senate Presidency and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively.
The party National Secretary, Umar Tsauri announced the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) on Tuesday.
Tsauri said the decision was as a result of the resolution by the party leaders after a careful consultation with governors and lawmakers.

Ndume is battling the position with Ahmad Lawan in the Senate while Bago is in the race with Femi Agbajabiamila in the House of Representatives.
But the All Progressives Congress, APC backed Gbajabiamila and Lawan respectively for the positions.
Despite party pressure, the duo who finally get the backings of their colleagues from the opposition has refused to step down.
PDP said its move is to deepen democracy, “ensure a strong and independent legislature, strict compliance with the principle of separation of powers as well as constitutional checks and balances in the polity.”
“All senators and members-elect on the platform of the PDP are to be guided accordingly,” the statement added.
PDP is in the habit of backing rejected candidates of the APC as the party-backed Bukola Saraki (then APC) for Senate and Yakubu Dogara (also in APC at the time) for speaker in 2015.
APC had endorsed the same two contestants in 2015 before Saraki and Dogara applied commando style to triumph which led to bad blood between the duo and their then party.
