NGF Election: Northern, PDP governors in crucial meetings

Governors from the northern states met in Abuja on Friday morning , but sources at the meeting said the governors were unable to arrive at a particular candidate to support for the position of chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum.

Three candidates are contesting for the position which would be filled later today.

The candidates are Rotimi Amaechi(Rivers),  Isa Yuguda(Bauchi) and Ibrahim Shema(Katsina).The meting was held at the Niger State Governor”s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.Journalists were barred from entering the premises.

Also, governors elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party are now meeting at the Akwa Ibom State Governor”s Lodge, Abuja. Again, journalists have also been asked not to enter the compound where the meeting is being held.

Meanwhile, governor of Ondo State(Segun Mimiko)  and the governor of Zamfara State(Abdulazeez Yari) are contesting for the position of the Forum.

The NGF constitution provides that both chairman of the Forum and his deputy are to come from different political parties.While Mimiko belongs to Labour Party,  Yari is a member of All Nigeria People’s Party.The three contenders for the post of chairman are members of the PDP.
