It will be a miracle, according to Olorunnimbe Mamora, minister of science and technology, if Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) nominee for president, wins the election.
This was stated by the former senator for Lagos Central when he appeared on the Tuesday episode of Channels Television’s Political Paradigm.
Prior to the 2023 presidential election, Obi’s candidacy continued to rule online discourse.
The minister claimed throughout the broadcast that Obi lacked the requisite support system to ensure victory.
“What I see, with all due respect, is what you can call independent candidacy in Labour, and to the best of my knowledge, even in America, no independent candidate has ever won the presidency,” he said.
“They can win in the senate or house of representatives but not in the presidential. So, it will be a miracle of the century.
“I won’t dismiss it (support for Peter Obi), but it doesn’t seem to me that it will be as such as would cause havoc in this system at the end of the day.”
Peter Obi’s popularity has been rising significantly since he defected from the PDP to contest under the Labour Party. What seemed to be a social media bandwagon is fast becoming a reality, causing ripples within the more established political parties.
