NNPP picks Barr. Ladipo Johnson as running mate to Rabiu Kwankwanso

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has picked barrister Ladipo Johnson as a running mate to its presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwanso.

According to Thecable report, an official of the party who pleaded anonymity disclosed the development on Saturday, June 18.

The party picked the barrister to "stand-in" to meet the deadline for submitting candidate names for the 2023 elections.

The medium quoted the party official saying, "Barrister Ladipo Johnson is standing in as our vice-presidential candidate, and his name has been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission."

The move mirrors the Labour Party's choice of Doyin Okupe as a "placeholder" vice-presidential candidate.

Both parties are now searching for a substantial running mate for their flag bearer ahead of the 2023 elections.

The anonymous official reportedly said, "Our idea and reasoning is to bring together in this country, for the first time, the largest political coalition possible because we are facing two political giants — APC and PDP. We are serious about upstaging them, and we will."

Meanwhile, NNPP and LP are in talks for a coalition, according to a confirmed post by the NNPP on Saturday.

The party said, "We wish to inform Nigerians that our discussions with Peter Obi and the Labour Party are still ongoing. A special committee was set to discuss arrangements. We hope for good results that will give Nigeria a chance to be alive, once again."
