The Speaker of the Ogun Stae House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, has been impeached.

Oluomo, representing the Ifo I constituency, was impeached by 18 out of 26 members of the Assembly.

The Assembly members also immediately elected Elemide Oludaisi to replace him.

The new speaker is from the Odeda constituency in the Abeokuta North local government area of the state.

Elemide, who is said to be the loyalist of former Governor Olusegun Osoba, had stepped down from the speakership race to pave the way for Oluomo’s re-election during the inauguration of the tenth Assembly in June 2023.

The former speaker was removed over allegations concerning N2.5billion fraud.

The corrupt charges of diversion of the said fund meant for the Assembly have turned majority members of the house against Oluomo.
