The governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party PDP in the Ondo State gubernatorial election, Eyitayo Jegede has called on governor Rotimi Akeredolu to step aside after four years in the saddle of leadership.
Jegede, a senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN made this known against the backdrop of a statement credited to Akeredolu that Barrister Jegede should wait for his turn to govern the state ahead of the October 10th governorship election.
But speaking in an interview on Thursday monitored by our correspondent, Jegede a former Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in the state dismissed Akeredolu’s claim, noting that only the people can decide who becomes the Governor of the state.

“Governor Akeredolu is my friend, but he should know that it’s not up to him to decide who becomes the Governor of Ondo state, it is the Peoples like Okada riders, students, pregnant women and old women who are suffering, not the All Progressives Congress or the Governor.
“Did he wait for his time when he contested against Former Governor Olusegun Mimiko? He contested and lost for the first time against Mimiko. But won on his second attempt. Olusegun Agagu also contested for the first time and lost, but won for the second time. And I contested in 2016 and INEC said I lost and I am going to win this time being my second attempt if we should follow that logic.
“The zoning issue in Ondo is not written just like Akeredolu has also noted. The duvidion of Ondo into Ondo Central, North and South are for the Senatorial Seats meant for the senate. It shouldn’t be brought into the executive. The students, market women and others in the state don’t even undetsyand this so called zoning arrangement. It is the making of the politicians to suit themselves.
On if he would prove the government of Rotimi Akeredolu if he emerhece governor, he simply said ; ” I don’t have time chasing anybody around, my focus would be simply governance and the people.”
“He has been tested for four years, let the Ondo people try someone else like me and see the difference between our programmes and theirs for four years,” he said.
