The Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in the Ondo State gubernatorial election, Barrister Eyitayo Jegede has called on the people of the state to defect governor Rotimi Akeredolu, noting that his government has failed.
Jegede, a senior advocate of Nigeria, SAN also dismissed those asking him to withdraw from the race over his I eligibility over the zoning arrangement in the state.
The PDP candidate who was also the flag bearer in the 2016 election has faced series of criticisms, with with his critics saying that it was not the turn for Ondo Central to produce the governor of the state.

But while speaking in an interview on Monday through the Director General of the Eyitayo Jegede campaign Organisation, Mr. Zaddock Akintoye, he said that ejecting a governor shouldn’t be about zoning, but the capacity and competence of the individual. “
He boosted that the PDP and its candidate would emerge victorious in the October 10th governorship election.
“Without sounding immodest, by this time on the 11th of October after the election on the 10th of October, we would be celebrating a PDP victory.. Our campaign has been relating with the people, meeting with the people in their locality to talk to them, to empathize with them, to speak to them that this government has failed.
“Our campaign has also been very real, we don’t mobilize people like other campaigns. We go to communities, we go to wards and as Yorubas we have also followed the culture by ensuring that in every locality that we go to, we first and foremost visit the traditional rulers, we respect them and I am well assured that come October 10th, the great people of Ondo state, the very highly intellectual state will come together to change leadership.
“What we have done is to focus on the principle of democracy and the people is the basis on where democracy thrive and we have taken our campaign to the people and ensure that their votes count come election day.
“The campaigns for zoning have a valid reasons to campaign for it. However, that is not the basis upon which leaders are chosen in a democracy. Let me tell you very clearly that Ondo State has one of the highest members of very intelligent, very educated and exposed people in Nigeria. And so for us to limit the choice of leaders of this great community to zoning, will be an insult to the people of Ondo state. “
He went further to add that zoning should not be promoted in a 21st century Democratic society.
“We are not insulting those Campagning for zoning , we are only saying that in the 21st century and going by the fact that we are a very very well educated state, the qualities for which we are choosing a governor Is not limited, is not even defined by the locality of the individual, its defined by the capacity of the individual, by his or her antecedents and what the person is bringing on the table. Zoning may have value to those who are proposing it, it’s not a value in a democracy. “
