Barrister Asue Ighodalo won the PDP primary with a total vote of 577 to defeat the other five contestants who participated in the exercise. Philip Shaibu got one vote, while 6 votes were void.

The exercise began in the early hours of Thursday and saw accredited delegates from the one hundred and ninety-two wards, national and statutory delegates participating in the exercise, which the chairman and governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, supervised.

One of the Aspirants, Omosede Igbinedion, had stepped down during the process to endorse Asue Ighodalo.

Announcing the winner, the primary chairman, his Excellency Dauda Lawal, said Asue Ighodalo scored a total of 577 votes to emerge the Flag Bearer of the PDP in the September twenty-one governorship election.

The winner, Asue Ighodalo, appreciated the delegates and the PDP for having that confidence in him.

He assured that all the aggrieved members of the party would be brought together under one big umbrella as they remained brothers.

Earlier, the deputy governor Philip was said to have won with 310 votes in a parallel election where he was the sole candidate.
