President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday night, citing a political crisis.

In his nationwide broadcast, Tinubu expressed concern over the situation, particularly the demolition of the State House of Assembly building by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

As a result, Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the House of Assembly for six months.

Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) was appointed as the Administrator of the state to oversee its affairs.

Tinubu clarified that the judicial arm of the state would continue functioning as usual, but the Administrator would be empowered to make necessary regulations, subject to federal approval.

This move follows a meeting held earlier in the day between Tinubu, his service chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and key figures including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House leadership.
