Less than 24 hours after Comrade Philip Shaibu was impeached by 18 out of 19 Edo lawmakers, some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters Tuesday took to the streets of Auchi, headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, to protest the return of the erstwhile number two citizen to the ruling party.
Armed with placards bearing inscriptions such as “We Don’t Want Phillip Shaibu In APC” and “APC Is Not A Refugee Camp,” the protesters trooped around the northern Edo town and sang solidarity songs. They called Comrade Shaibu a betrayer for fighting Senator Adams Oshiomhole, his ex-godfather.
After that, the protesters from the 12 Wards in the local government area marched to the party secretariat at Auchi to submit their petition against the rumoured return of the former deputy governor to the APC.

Comrade Shaibu left APC for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with Governor Godwin Obaseki during the 2020 Edo governorship election when both men fell out with the immediate past governor of Edo State over sundry issues.
A statement on behalf of the APC stakeholders in Etsako West by the spokesman, Mr Yakubu Musa, noted that the former deputy governor’s exit from the ruling party in 2020 brought peace and tranquillity to APC.
The protesters appealed to the trio of the party’s national chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, Senator Oshiomhole, and the state acting chairman, Mr. Jaret Tenebe, not to allow the impeached deputy governor into the APC fold.
He concluded that any attempt to enrol Philip Shaibu into APC is a direct invitation to crisis, fragmentation, disaffection, disenchanting and disintegration.
