The sudden resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and Senator Iyiola Omisore, the National Secretary, has been attributed to their handling of the contentious audit report of the party’s account, according to reliable sources.
It has also been revealed that President Bola Tinubu and APC governors have already begun the search for suitable replacements for the departed officials.
Adamu and Omisore tendered their resignation letters on Sunday, leading to speculations surrounding the reasons behind their actions. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the party officially confirmed their resignations during an emergency meeting held at the party headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

Senator Abubakar Kyari, who has assumed the role of acting National Chairman in accordance with the party’s constitution, announced the development. Notably, Omisore’s attempt to join the NWC meeting was thwarted as he was denied access to the venue.
According to aggrieved NWC members, the contention surrounding the audit of the party’s account, refusal to render party accounts for one year, lack of transparency, violation of the party’s constitution, and unilateral decision-making without the involvement of the NWC were key factors that led to their downfall.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, an NWC member disclosed, “The final straw that broke the camel’s back was the manner in which Adamu and Omisore engaged an external auditor for the audited account without the consent of the NWC or the National Executive Committee (NEC).
Instead of sharing the audit report with the committee for scrutiny, both Adamu and Omisore signed and forwarded it directly to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This raised suspicions and prompted the NWC to alert President Bola Tinubu and the APC governors about the potential implosion if the tensions were not addressed promptly.”
A party chieftain at the secretariat, also speaking anonymously, provided a similar account. The NWC member emphasized that the proper procedures for rendering the party’s account should have been followed, including utilizing the party’s internal audit department.
