The Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) in Edo State has advised Governor Godwin Obaseki to start preparing his handover note instead of moving to impeach his deputy governor, Philip Shaibu.
The alleged move to impeach Shaibu resurfaced after the fallout in the just-concluded governorship primaries, as Shaibu was accused of running a parallel primary that saw his emergence as the party governorship candidate.
The CRPP Chairman, Samson Isibor, gave the advice in Benin in an interview with Journalists on Tuesday, 5 March 2024.
Isibor said Shaibu had not committed any offence for choosing to contest the governorship election.
He said the deputy governor was only exercising his right and that any plan to impeach him would only lead to a crisis in the state.
The group chairman said the CRPP’s call became necessary because Governor Obaseki and the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Blessing Agbebaku, birthed a purported plan to impeach the deputy governor, emphasised that such a move would heighten Political tension in the state.
He, however, said that instead of wasting the resources on impeaching the Deputy Governor, such resources should be channelled to uplift the well-being of the people, as hunger is currently affecting the citizens.
However, a spokesperson for the speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, who prefers his name not to be mentioned, said there is no plan as the CRPP leadership is being induced financially to fly a kite that does not even exist.
