Third-Term Agenda: Buhari Has A Strategy Of Denial – UK Based Lawyer Kede Aihie

A London based lawyer and publisher, Kede Aihie says President Muhammadu Buhari could be behind the third-term agenda.

This is following the president’s denial on the third-term speculations and the suit filed by a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Charles Enya at a Federal High Court in Ebonyi State.

Enya is compelling the National Assembly to remove the constitutional clause which limits Presidents and their deputies, governors and their deputies from seeking a third term in office.

The Ebonyi born member of the APC described the clause as “discriminatory.”

Last week, Buhari said he won’t attempt to seek third-term in office during a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC)

The President cited age as a major factor and his obedience to the constitution of Nigeria

“I’m not going to make the mistake of attempting a third term,” the president said.

“Besides the age, I swore by the holy book that I would go by the constitution and the constitution said two terms. I know that I’m in my last term and I can afford to be reckless because I’m not going to ask for anybody’s vote.”

“Every member of NEC from today should reposition himself or herself to make sure that you have dominated your constituencies politically. The aim is that history will not be fair to us if outrightly if the APC collapses at the end of this term,” he said.

“History will be fair to us if APC remains strong and not only hold the centre but make gains.”

However, not many believe Buhari’s position as even the London based Nigerian lawyer said a former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo made the same attempt but failed.

“As the saying goes, no smoke without fire. Obasanjo, tried similar strategy, flying kites, to test the waters. “

“He had a strategy of denial, should the venture fail”

On Enya’s suit, Aihie said “Case dead on arrival, amendment to tenure elongation, is through the National Assembly.

“The courts will not allow abuse of the court process”

The Scotland born UK lawyer is not the only one who believed the President is lying, Human Rights lawyer, Femi Falana had said the Presidency was muscling the media and dissident voices in the country in an attempt to remain unchallenged on his third-term agenda.

He said during an interview with Punch in Lagos that the current administration might be plotting a third term agenda.

Falana said this while speaking at the presentation of a book entitled: “Testimony to Courage”, written in honour of Dapo Olorunyomi, Premium Times Publisher.

“The media must not be silenced. You may have a third term campaign soon,” he said.

“Very soon, they will destroy all possible opponents. And by the time they bring in the third term agenda, the media would have been gone. But we are not going to allow it. No dictatorship can defeat the Nigerian people.”

APC Abandons Charles Enya on Third-Term Agenda

Meanwhile, the APC in a statement by its National Secretary Lanre Issa-Onilu has distance itself from the suit filed by Charles Enya.

NAIJA CENTER reports on Thursday that the the party also threatened to expel the Ebonyi State born APC member if found guilty of the offence, adding that the party is a “progressive”.

“The All Progressives Congress (APC)read in the media about a purported legal action taken by a self-proclaimed member of the Party, Charles Enya, seeking an amendment of the constitution to allow President Muhammadu Buhari run for a third term in office,” the statement read.

“The Party is, however, by this statement sending a strong signal to such other busybodies like Charles Enya who may be contemplating testing the resolve of our government on our mission to work for the best for our country to be ready to face the law.”
