President Bola Tinubu has approved Mrs Zubaida Umar’s appointment as the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEAM).
She takes over replacing Mustapha Ahmed, who was nominated in May 2021 by previous President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Her appointment further underlines the President’s avowed commitment to gender inclusion,” the Presidency said in a statement signed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
The statement is titled, ‘President Tinubu appoints a new NEMA Director-General.
‘
Umar has over 20 years of work experience in human resources, finance, and administration.
A member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and the Institute of Credit Administration, she holds ACCA certifications in public financial management and digital and sustainability financing.
As Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services at the Federal Mortgage Bank, Umar reportedly facilitated the transformation of the institution into a modern, digitized mortgage and financial service provider.
According to Ngelale, “In carrying out his primary mandate, the President anticipates that the new Director-General will bring the much-needed financial and operational discipline and refashion the agency into a performance-driven and proactive emergency response provider with a focus on prevention and climate change readiness.”
