President Bola Tinubu has officially won the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election, following a landslide victory in the party’s nationwide direct primary held on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
He was declared the winner on Sunday.
The primary election took place across the country’s 8,809 wards in all 774 local government areas.
Tinubu’s only challenger in the race was Mr Stanley Osifo, a businessman and APC chieftain from Edo State.
The chairman of the APC Presidential Primaries Election Committee, Mr Pius Anyim, announced the results at the collation centre located at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Mr Anyim said: “I am also to confirm that there were two aspirants to the APC 2026 presidential primary elections – the incumbent president, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and Mr Stanley Osifo.
“Mr President, the election has been collated, the results have been computed, and I can say on behalf of the committee that the following were the records of the elections.
“Across the country, a total number of 12,643,306 registered voters were registered in our party.”
He added that 11,069,756 voters were accredited for the election, and 11,015,665 cast their votes.
Mr Anyim then announced the final results: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, received a total number of 10,999,162 votes. Mr Stanley Osifo received a total of 16,503 votes.”
He continued: “It is therefore my duty as returning officer for this primary election to declare President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, having satisfied the requirements of APC constitution and guidelines, and scored the highest number of votes, as the winner of the presidential primary election. He is hereby returned as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 general elections.”
Tinubu later received the party’s flag and his certificate of return from the National Chairman of the APC, Mr Nentawe Yilwatda.
While accepting his emergence as the party’s candidate, President Tinubu thanked APC members for their support.
He said: “Thank you all. You changed the landscape, looking at the figure that you returned.”
