In a recent development at the Presidential Election Petition Court, President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima presented 18 exhibits in response to the petition filed by the Labour Party and its candidate, Peter Obi.
The petition challenged Tinubu’s victory in the polls and alleged that he did not meet the qualifications to run for the 2023 presidential election.
The exhibits were presented to disprove the allegations made against Tinubu and Shettima. Among the documents tendered was Shettima’s letter of withdrawal from the Borno South Senatorial race. Additionally, a copy of the Labour Party membership register for Anambra State was provided as evidence to support the claim that Peter Obi was not a registered member of the party.

The documents were presented to the court by Tinubu and Shettima’s lead counsel, Wole Olanipekun, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). Along with the Labour Party’s letter dated April 25, 2022, which forwarded the membership register to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, the documents were submitted for consideration.
The counsel representing the petitioners, Livy Uzoukwu, objected to the admissibility of the documents. However, despite the objection, the court admitted the exhibits and marked them accordingly.
In other proceedings, the defence decided to withdraw their request to call witnesses, indicating a change in their strategy for the case.
