Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Sokoto state governor Aminu Tambuwal met in Abeokuta, Ogun State, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), the meeting took place on Sunday.
The meeting was held behind closed doors, said to Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo's media assistant.
According to him, the duo met for about one hour and discussed majorly on burning national issues. “He later took his lunch with his entourage and headed for the mosque inside OOPL to observe salat (prayers) before leaving the complex,” Akinyemi said in a statement.
The Sokoto State Governor had withdrawn his presidential ambition to support the candidacy of Atiku Abubakar at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convention. This move, according to Tambuwal was in the interest of the party and the country.
Although, many political pundits believe it weakened the opposition party's strength as powerful individuals like Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike have not openly pulled his support behind the Atiku train.
The internal crisis is worsened by the exit of Peter Obi to Labour Party weakening Atiku and PDP's strength in areas where they could have had a free ride against APC.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
