Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli scored a late goal against Japan Monday evening to ensure that Brazil reached the round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in a nervy 2-1 win at the Houston stadium.
Japan got into the lead in the 29th minute through Kaishu Sano, who profited from an underhit pass to put the Samurai Blue ahead.
Brazil threatened to equalise with close efforts, but the Asians repelled the five-time tournament winners’ moves.
