Co-hosts Canada Sunday evening pipped South Africa 1-0 to reach the round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Stephen Eustáquio was the difference-maker for Canada as he struck in the 90th minute with a long-range pile that beat Rowen Williams in goal for the Bafana Bafana.
Canada, like South Africa, have never made it past the group stages of the World Cup in their previous participations – the last being in 1986 – but showed lots of endeavour at the SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California.

South Africa will now face the Netherlands or Morocco in the round of 16 of the tournament.
