African champions Morocco became the first team to book their berth in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Saturday evening as they beat co-hosts Canada 3-0 at the Houston Stadium.
Girona midfielder Azzedine Ounahi scored a brace while Soufiane Rahimi got the other late into the game as the African side booked a fixture against the winner of the France against Paraguay game.
Canada were the more adventurous team in the game as they made forays in the Moroccan box, but the duo of Jonathan David and Tani Oluwaseyi were denied by goalkeeper Bonou.
Morocco and Egypt are the only African nations to make it to the round of 16 of the tournament.
